It was a beautiful day at the Riverside Park New Smyrna. I was enjoying the water and beautiful scenery when out of the corner of my eye I saw an unusual site. It was a vessel tied to the transient dock. I had never seen one like it. I decided to get a closer look. There I met the young couple, Evan and Arianna. The vessel obviously was converted. It looked like something the Vikings would use with two bows instead of a stern. The closest thing I could find is a Monomoy Surf Rescue boat like they used on the Titanic shown below*.
I asked where they were headed? Evan said they started their voyage in North Carolina. Their float plan was to travel the IWC to the St. Lucie River going through the locks on to the Okeechobee Waterway into the Gulf Coast of Florida. They had been traveling for 40 days now. He said it was freezing cold until they reached Florida.
Evan shared that they had seen some small gators along the way. He had expected to see much larger gators such as the 19-foot legend on Lake Jessup. They also saw dolphin and all kinds of waterfowl like the snakebird. I mentioned the further south they go the warmer it should be. Perhaps they can stop along the shoals and swim with the dolphins if the water is not too cold. Arianna was excited about that idea. I said they should see some manatee as they migrate south for warmth in the winter. I wished them fair winds and calm seas as they went on their way to make their destination for the night.
Wherever 2021 takes you this year, make sure to capture those special memories. You will have them for the rest of your life. Best wishes to Evan and Arianna as they travel through life one adventure at a time.
